During my final wedding dress fitting my Mom pointed out a major problem. My very fitted long sleeved dress was pretty restricting and was going to be problamatic when it came time to tear-it-up on the dance floor. I love to dance and couldn't imagine not being about to bust-out all my dance moves on my wedding day because of my restrictive dream dress. I racked my brain for a solution and arrived at the brilliant idea of reusing my Mom's wedding dress. I mean, she didn't have it all preserved for nothing! My Mom's dress needed some major updating; it was from the 80's, need I say anymore? I knew it was going to be a massive job and I wasn't sure if it would be possible to find someone to pull off such a task and it be completed in a month.
Which brings me to the angels at Dantella Bridal. Once I did my research, I came across them and I thought if any business could make this happen they could! I made the 1st available appointment, which was only a day or two later. My Mom & I received a warm welcome from the owner Shayma and her employee, Claire. It was like we knew them our whole lives. Shayma was so helpful and gave great suggestions on what would be the best way to update my Mom's dress. First things first, we did away with the 80's sleeves and we decided to completely change the neckline into a sweetheart neckline. Shayma also added straps for support on the bodice of my dress. On the bottom of the dress there were two layers in the front so we cut the first layer away creating a high low hemline. The hemline came up to under my knee so it wasn't too high. My Mom's dress had a very long train. We decided to cut off the train as well so the back of the dress only touched the ground.
Over all the process was incredibly easy and smooth which are two things every bride-to-be wants! I had to come back for two more appointments just making sure everything was fitting correctly as the dress was taking shape. Shayma truly has an eye for wedding dresses and can really transform a gown like nothing I have ever seen. The dress was also completed by the time frame I needed for my destination wedding in Italy.
It meant the world being able to wear the dress my Mom wore when she married my Dad, especially when we did our father/daughter dance. It was incredibly special to know my Dad was dancing with my Mom 30 years ago in the same dress on their wedding for their 1st dance as Husband and Wife. I am forever thankful that this mission was able to be successfully pulled off and I could dance the night away and bust all the dance moves! My girl's and I even did a surprise Spice Girl dance, that wouldn't have been possible in my original dress. I know it also meant a lot to my Mom and she has always mentioned how special it would be if I wore her dress; so to see her wish be fulfilled on my wedding day was so amazing! Several family members and friends were also touched by the sentiment of it all on my wedding as as well. Hopefully my parents have a 35th wedding anniversary party so my Mom can also wear her update wedding dress! Fingers crossed. I would highly recommend Dantella Bridal to any bride, it was such a positive and wonderful experience.
